Geranium Bevans Variety

Cranesbill macrorrhizum | Pollinator Plant
Bright fragrant magenta-pink blossoms with conspicuous veining and decorative deep red sepals highlight dense mounds of pine-scented foliage. The bronze and red fall foliage provides continued seasonal interest. Many of the flowers exhibit interesting veining. Popular ground cover. Border fronts, cottage gardens or wild gardens. Excellent pollinator plant as it attracts bees and hummingbirds as well as beneficial insects.
This is woodland edge plant (or light deciduous forest plant) and looks the best as a groundcover in half shade, or woodland garden. Plant in small groups or medium sizes areas, under canopy of bigger trees, in front of groups of shrubs.

Goes well with Aster divaricatus, Geranium maculatum, Brunnera, Epimedium, Geum, Helleborus, Hosta, Polygonatum, spring ephemerals and bulbs and grasses like Carex or Hakonechloa. Slowly spreads via this rhizomes on the surface and right under the surface of the soil and is good in suppressing weeds. It does not have an aggressive root system and will not harm the more delicate shallow root systems of plants like rhododendrons and azaleas. Geranium macrorrhizum ‘Bevan’s Variety’ works well growing in front of taller perennials such as Asters or Solidago. This plant requires very little maintenance. A light shearing in mid winter can tidy the foliage, but is not necessary.
