Meet Frank “the beeman“
You’ve probably heard about him! He’s frequently in the news. A good many of you may even know him. Some of you probably have read his “best selling” book Bee People And The Bugs They Love. A whole lot of you have tasted the “Nectar of Mother Nature” he purveys. Or perhaps you saw him on the news getting raised up into the air on a hook and ladder fire truck to remove a swarm of bees from a Ridgewood, N.J. business. He sure does get around and always puts a smile on your face. I’ll tell you whom he reminds me of – George Bailey from the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”. Ya just gotta love this guy!
Well now is your chance to meet him. Come Sunday, September 7th from 1–4 PM, Frank “the beeman” Mortimer will be at the garden center for a sweet afternoon full of honey samples, live bees 🐝, and bee-rilliant facts about our favorite pollinators! It’s a fun, sticky, and educational time for bee-lovers of all ages! The Beeman will be ready to answer all your buzz-worthy questions and share the sweet science behind honey-making. 🍯

The numbers of these pollinators are being reduced in alarming rates by habitat loss, through urbanization and the overuse of pesticides. Honeybees are losing ground to a parasitic mite. More than 90 percent of all plants need a pollinator to distribute pollen to set fruit and seeds. While bees buzz their way from flower to flower, butterflies glide and flit back and forth as if they know they are putting on a show for us.
