Fresh Produce at Goffle Brook Farms

Goffle Brook Farms Fresh Local Produce

There’s nothing else like it to put a smile on your face. Shopping at a farmer’s market for your own hand picked, fresh produce. The sights and sounds of customers chit chatting while divulging in locally grown produce. The aromas of fresh fruits and vegetables wafting on a summer’s breeze. Children grabbing a grape to munch on when no ones looking. And then there are the benefits…

On average, produce travels about 1,500 miles from farm to store, and because of that, it’s picked still unripe. The produce at the farmers market is more often picked ripe and sold within a day. That translates into fresher, better-tasting food that’s also more nutritious, because the vitamins and other nutrients haven’t had time to break down. And local produce has a significantly smaller carbon footprint than fruits and veggies that have been trucked hundreds of miles to a supermarket.

Summer 2018 Fruits and Vegetables

Cotton Candy Grapes

Cotton Candy Grapes

These plump, juicy, all-natural green grapes are one of our newest varieties, and they’re one that everyone is excited about. The cotton candy flavour is unmistakable. It’s sweeter than traditional table grape varieties. These tasty grapes boast all the health benefits and nutrients of regular grapes but with a twist: Each bite tastes just like the soft, sugary, hand-spun cotton candy you know and love — without the extra chemicals, sugar, calories and guilt you don’t.

Sapphire Grapes

It’s called Sweet Sapphire. First off, the grape is shaped like a drop and secondly, it is black. When seeing the berries for the first time it really is difficult not to be reminded of liquorice. It has a long shape, imagine the shape of a blob of honey that you allowed to fall. The length of the berries is 5 to 7 centimeters. The taste is sweet and refreshing with a full body grape flavour. When taking a bite of this unique berry the crisp skin bursts open and the firm flesh explodes in your mouth. A natural cross-pollination process gives the variety a taste and versatility unlike other grapes, according to the release. The grapes are so firm they can be snapped in half and stuffed.

Jersey White Peaches

Jersey White Peaches at Goffle Brook Farms

Jersey-grown peaches are at the top of people’s lists as the most beloved fruits of summer. The Garden State is the 4th largest peach producer in the country. White Peaches are spicier and a little juicier.  A half-cup sliced fresh peaches is just 30 calories and provides 10 percent of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C. White-fleshed peaches are lower in acid and taste sweet whether firm or soft. As for cooking, the two types are interchangeable according to preference. We generally think the delicate, floral sweetness of white peaches is excellent for eating out of hand or grilling, but like the more intense flavor of yellow peaches for baking.
